May 24

So excited! The May long weekend is coming and the family is going camping! We are trying a new place down near Bancroft and it sounds quite nice. This is going to be the farthest we have ventured to go camping so far. It is also going to be the first time camping with a puppy. She is such a good little thing and adapts well so I cant see there being a problem.
The only thing that I am hoping for is warmer nights. We have a pop-up trailer so we have heat and the mattresses are heated too but I dont want to be freezing sitting around the campfire. Oh well, we will make the best of it. The boys, dh and I all love camping so it should be fun.
The only thing I hate with the whole camping experience is the menu planning. The boys are all picky and I feel quite limited to what I can make over a little propane stove. Hmm, guess its time to search the net for ideas.
So much to do for the weekend and I find that its all last minute stuff like packing clothes and buying groceries. I think this weekend though I am going to start packing the essentials into the trailer like the sleeping bags and blankets and utensils and pots. At least that will give me some sense of accomplishment. I think I need to start a list for all the stuff I need to get and need to pack.
Cant wait, cant wait, cant wait!!

  1. I went camping (in a tent!!) with the children when they were small and found that if your kids like things like potato salad, macaroni salad etc you can pack it in a cooler and make life a bit easier for the trip in general. Less cooking...more fun. Also, lose the complicated stuff if you can. Mac'n cheese with hot dogs, peameal bacon with pan fried hash browns, or the good old staple....a drum roll please?....beans with franks cut in, can make the trip a different experience for children. And makes the shopping & prep time easier on the adults. Of course, this menu doesn't make the adults do any back flips & if you're a vegetarian some substitutions would be needed. Don't sweat the first time camping...it'll be fun no matter what you take.
